Research and Consultation

Literature Review, Analysis and Testing

At Red Dragon Conservation, we comply with the American Institute for Conservators’ code of ethics, which clearly illustrates the inherent conflict of interest between conservation and appraisal or authentication. We gladly do the research, both through peer reviewed literature review and laboratory testing, and provide the scientific findings as evidence which can then be used by an appraiser to authenticate and assign monetary value. We then share this knowledge with our clients.

Photography

We have a full professional lighting and photography set up in the studio. The high quality of images, obtained through a controlled lighting environment and photography skills, offer the detail necessary for study, and are always appreciated by our clients. Digital photo microscopy further enhances the ability to capture detail not visible to the naked eye, and record it for reference.

We offer:

  • Digital and analog microscopy.

  • Visual analysis using UV light.

  • Solvent testing.

  • Photographic methods such as the use of raking light.

  • Digital photo microscopy.

  • Micro photography.

  • Temperature manipulation.

  • Magnetic testing.
